Also a live issue for me concerning the synonyms eg 418530008 |Tube - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| with synonym Tube. The Content Team currently have a CRS request for promotion of duplicate description Tube (physical object).
May I ask about the proposal for concepts that are not semantic duplicates ("In many situations the unit of presentation for a product is the same as the unit of product usage. However this may not always be the case such as where doses are measured in terms of drops, sprays or puffs.") - are these to be moved under Unit of presentation (unit of presentation)?
Will be great to gather comments and feedback on this proposal including any impact of inactivation of << 408102007 |Unit dose (qualifier value)| - thanks for raising.
I agree with this proposal. Consolidating these two overlapping hierarchies is a good idea - and the << |Unit of presentation| concepts are the ones that need to be kept, due to their significant usage in the drug model.
With respect to concepts in the |Unit dose| subhierarchy that are not semantic duplicates (e.g. scoop, spray, squirt), moving these into the |Unit of presentation| hierarchy would require SNOMED's definition of "Unit of presentation" to become broader than that used by EDQM. However, it would certainly be much simpler, from an implementation perspective to have these all together in the same subhierarchy.
The Unit of presentation hierarchy was created with the purpose of providing concepts to support the modelling of medicinal products to align with EDQM. I had deliberately NOT proposed to move the concepts in the |Unit dose| subhierarchy that are not semantic duplicates (e.g. scoop, spray, squirt), into the |Unit of presentation| hierarchy as it would require SNOMED's definition of "Unit of presentation" to become broader than that used by EDQM as this feels like a retrograde step after the work carried out to harmonise dose form definitions across standards.
Here are the 37 concepts for inactivation as duplicating Unit of presentation - if there are no objections from the DEUSG checking w Jim Case requirement for Informational Briefing Note (or is Early Visibility sufficient?)
• 421984009 |Ampule - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421985005 |Application - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421986006 |Applicator - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421987002 |Bag - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421988007 |Bar - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421989004 |Base - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421990008 |Blister - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421991007 |Bottle - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421992000 |Box - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421993005 |Can - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421994004 |Capsule - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421995003 |Rectal capsule - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421996002 |Vaginal capsule - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421997006 |Case - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421998001 |Disc - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 421999009 |Dressing - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422000007 |Enema - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422001006 |Gum - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422002004 |Implant - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422003009 |Inhalation - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422004003 |Insert - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422005002 |Kit - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422006001 |Lozenge - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422007005 |Package - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422008000 |Packet - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422009008 |Pad - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422010003 |Pastille - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422011004 |Patch - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422012006 |Pellet - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422013001 |Prefilled syringe - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422014007 |Sachet - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422015008 |Dual dose sachet - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422016009 |Sponge - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422017000 |Stick - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422018005 |Strip - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422019002 |Suppository - unit of product usage (qualifier value)| • 422020008 |Vaginal suppository - unit of product usage (qualifier value)|

That makes total sense Emma! Thanks for clarifying.

We will need a BN as the MF has requested notification when "large" sets of inactivations occur.
